Despite it being Hartnell's return to Philadelphia, he didn't really do much in terms of statistics or helping Columbus win...so that story's dead. Keep reading if you'd like.
After what seemed like a full offseason in between games, the Flyers returned to action at home tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The rest clearly didn't pay off, as the Flyers took a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Scott Hartnell's new team, a team that was 0-8-1 in their past 9 contests. The Blue Jackets seem to have the Flyers' number, having won 4 of the last 5 match-ups.

Just as it looked like the season opener was heading to overtime and the Flyers would get at least 1 point, Chris Kelly wiped the tension out of the air with a goal coming with only 1:51 left in the game. This put the Atlantic Division favorite Boston Bruins up 2-1 and gave them the win. The Flyers fought hard, led by Steve Mason as per usual, but it wasn't enough to start the season 1-0-0.
The Flyers rookies took on the Washington Capitals rookies today at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. In a dominant performance the Flyers took the win 3-0 in a game that saw goals from Petr Straka, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Kevin Goumas.
AFC EAST:
Buffalo: CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson continue to run neck and neck. Spiller had the added benefit of a receiving TD this week, but their numbers were still very close. Sammy Watkins still has room to improve, only catching 3 balls for 31 yards. Miami: Bill Lazor, the Dolphins offensive coordinator, said today that the team will continue to rotate Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller. Moreno had a good game against New England this week and is creeping in to RB2 discussion. New England: For having a limited workload, Rob Gronkowski looked fine in week 1, even scoring a TD. Ride Gronk as much as you can and hopefully he stays injury free. Given the fact that pretty much all but 3 TE's suck this year, having Gronk is an asset. Brady didn't look very good, often just throwing the ball up for grabs. Tread lightly with him this year. NY Jets: Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory split the workload right down the middle, adding another timeshare to an NFL that is already being overrun with them. Eric Decker is the only receiver on this team with any fantasy relevance. New segment we're doing here. Don't think I'll be able to post rankings this year due to the massive amount of time that takes and how hard it is to format on the web-hosting service we use. If you want good rankings though, trust me, skip ESPN and head over to Fantasy Pros. They've got what you need. As you'll see below, we're going to be bouncing around every division in the NFL and highlighting important fantasy notes from the week that was to help you going forward. In a sense, this is probably better than rankings. Without further adieu.
NFC EAST: Dallas: For as bad as their defense was supposed to be it was their offense that turned them into a laughingstock on Sunday. Specifically Romo. After being babied along in the preseason post-back surgery he came out and threw 3 interceptions and looked out of sync with his receivers. I wouldn't panic just yet, but if you have Romo as your only QB I might start looking to see if Jake Locker is available. NY Giants: Last night proved that Larry Donnell is the Giant's starting TE. I see a lot of dump routs for him going forward. Worth a waiver wire pickup if you're like me and traditionally only draft 1 TE. Philadelphia: Not too much to gleam from this game. An average showing from most fantasy players against a team that they were expected to beat handily. I will say that Ertz's stock is rising fast as Celek's slowly slides. Washington: Man, RGIII looked bad. I don't think I saw him complete one pass longer than 5 yards. Also Jordan Reed is expected to be out a few weeks due to a hamstring injury. MRI today. Logan Paulson and Niles Paul are your backups. BREAKING: Le'Veon Bell & LeGarrette Blount (PIT) Charged With Marijuana Possession:
The first and second string RB's for the Pittsburgh Steelers have both been charged with marijuana possession after a traffic stop today in Western PA. Both were arrested and then released. If charged with driving under the influence of marijuana, that counts as a DUI for Bell. If their suspensions are in line with Josh Gordon's first weed offense from last season expect them to be out for the first 2 games of the season. This catapults third string back Dri Archer's fantasy value, who is currently going undrafted on average. This gives new meaning to handcuffing running backs. -Ben Lebo Finally, a new podcast. Featuring the continuation of the new Lay's chip taste tests. Topics also covered include the Soul, Wings, Fantasy Football, Paul George's leg, Phillies' trade deadline & America's most unhappy cities. In this latest image of Claude Giroux making its rounds around the internet we see him chatting up some girls while being arrested for grabbing a police officer's ass. The Flyers captain remains stoic, still smiling, still wearing what appears to be a Phillies hat. Have to imagine that one of the girls, or possibly his friends put him up to the stunt. It's not everyday that your team captain gets arrested for grabbing police butts, but it looks like Giroux played this one off well, much like we as Philly fans will need to do when Penguins/Rangers/Devils fans try to bring this up mockingly this season. Somewhere out there, Jeff Carter is quietly chuckling.
Note that it's also daylight and yesterday was Canada's version of our 4th of July, so what famous Philly athlete could we see in a picture like this from the shore this Friday? -Ben Lebo NBA Draft Special tonight with Ben, Dan and special guest Leo. Also quick talks about the new 76ers logo, World Cup and Scott Hartnell. The above founding father, my friends, is a possible new alternate logo for the Sixers that has been floating around on various websites and Twitter feeds today. No confirmation on whether this is a legit change that's coming, but it wouldn't be surprising since it's coming on the heels of new logos for the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.
