Early 2015 City 6 College Basketball Rankings

Since we last watched our City 6 teams play, Philadelphia has endured 7 straight months of Chip Kelly, #FireRuben and #ThisStartsNow. But we made it through, with a month to go until the college basketball tip-off. Last season, we saw Villanova win the Big East and get a number 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but fall in the second round to a strong NC State team, and a Temple team that played well down the stretch, but fell to Miami in the NIT Semifinal.

We also saw La Salle find a new star in Jordan Price, and Saint Joseph's DeAndre' Bembry blossom into a future NBA prospect. Drexel had a rough start, going 2-11 at the beginning, but finished a respectable 9-7, even ripping off a 6-game win streak. They lost Damion Lee as a transfer to Louisville, so the hunt for a number one option on offense begins. Penn finished 9-19, but they have a new coach in Steve Donahue, who was an assistant at Penn for 10 years before becoming the head coach at Cornell and Boston College.

There's a lot to look forward to this season, but I'll start with a preseason ranking/summary of each City 6 program.

Eagles Sign Julian Vandervelde...Again

There are three truths that are guaranteed in life: death, taxes, and the Eagles signing and then releasing Julian Vandervelde every week. Vandervelde signed with the Eagles on October 14th of last season and stuck with the team until he was released on September 5th this year.

Reports: Tebow Finds A New Home In Philly

Tim Tebow's prayers have finally been answered, as he will finally be an NFL quarterback once again. Bishop Tebow and the Eagles agreed to a one year deal late this afternoon. The terms of the deal have not been released yet, but it doesn't seem like it will be too expensive.

Eagles Spoil Jackson's Return, Off To A 3-0 Start

There was no build up needed for this game, as Eagles and Redskins fans have had this game circled on their calendars since the schedule out months ago. Desean Jackson had a good game himself, but it wasn't enough to silence the Philadelphia crowd. Eagles fans were on him from the get go, and didn't relent until the final whistle.

No Luck Needed As Eagles Take Down Colts

10-0. That was Andrew Luck's career record after a loss heading into Monday night. In his short two plus year career, Luck has not lost consecutive games....until the Eagles came to town.

Early on, it looked as if that record would go to 11-0, as Foles and the Philadelphia offense struggled to get anything going. The line was having a hard time keeping off the rush, as they looked a little lost without veteran Evan Mathis. The offense was only able to muster up 6 points on two field goals in the first half.

Eagles Week 2 Preview

The Eagles' romp through the AFC South division continues Monday night, as the birds take on the 2013 AFC South division champion Indianapolis Colts. While they are a very talented football team, the Colts are a strange contender in that they have some very obvious flaws in their roster. Their problems aren't as big as the Jaguars' problems, but they are still very much a vulnerable if played against correctly.

Not everything went the Eagles' way during Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Obviously the first half wasn't great, but the Eagles more than made up for it in the second half to secure a 34-17 victory. But the real bad news came in the form of season ending injuries to a couple of key players.

Eagles Survive First Half Scare Against Jacksonville

The first half for Nick Foles and the birds was quite scary to those who follow the team closely. After being declared favorites in the NFC East and possibly Super Bowl contenders all preseason, the Eagles came out and played like anything but so, falling behind 17-0 at the half. The offense was offensive and the defense made the Jaguars look like the Broncos, as the Eagles turned the ball over three times and let up scores in three of the first five Jacksonville drives.

Eagles Impressive In Final Preseason Matchup

While all of the bonafide stars and starters did not suit up for Thursday's matchup against the Jets, the second and third stringers looked great against the Jets, as the good guys won by a score of 37-7. Matt Barkley looked terrific, as he finished 21-33 with 253 yards and a touchdown, and looks like a lock for the third string quarterback position.

Eagles Claim First Preseason Victory Over Steelers

The third time was the charm, as the Philadelphia Eagles secured their first preseason win over the Steelers at home Thursday night, by a score of 31-21. The first two preseason games, both on the road, concluded with losses to the Bears and Patriots, two of the NFL's best offenses. The Eagles looked terrific in front of their home crowd and the starters finally look about as ready as you can be for opening day.
