On Monday, the Phillies announced that starting pitcher Chad Billingsley would be placed on the 15-day disabled list. Billingsley was pulled after five shutout innings on Saturday after suffering from discomfort in his shoulder. He now heads to the DL with tenderness in his flexor tendon, marking his third stint on the DL this season. This time, “it could be” season ending, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters on Monday. |
The Phillies had hoped that Billingsley could potentially bounce back early in the season and become a trade piece before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. That now looks very unlikely, as Amaro all but ruled him out for the year.
Oh well, at least Jeff Francoeur looks like he could be a trade piece.
