Not much movement in the City 6 Rankings this week, but teams are beginning to round into form and give a better sense of where they may be come the end of the season.
Villanova, Temple and (somewhat shockingly) Drexel continue to be hot over the past few weeks, while La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Penn remain inconsistent.
With that said, lets jump into this week's rankings.
6. Penn (7-12; 6)
The Quakers had a decent week, going 1-1. Penn topped a decent Cornell team on the road on Friday, but followed that with a road loss to a solid Columbia squad on Saturday.
Penn finds itself staying put in the bottom of the rankings this week thanks to Drexel's current hot streak.
5. Drexel (9-14; 5)
Bruiser Flint and his squad went 2-0 this week to extend their current win streak to five and keep themselves ahead of Penn in these rankings.
The Dragons didn't exactly knock off top-tier competition in Elon and College of Charleston, but a win is a win at this point for Drexel.
As is the case most seasons for Drexel, they have only one chance of making the NCAA Tournament, and that is by winning the CAA Tourney.
4. Saint Joseph's (10-12; 4)
Saint Joseph's had an up-and-down week, dropping a game in overtime to a bad Saint Louis squad before beating a very bad George Mason squad on Saturday.
The Hawks are a young team that has certainly had some growing pains this season, but if they can play to their potential (and maybe knock down some free throws occasionally), they could finish the season on a strong note.
A warning to Hawks fans, Drexel is currently breathing down your necks for the fourth spot in these rankings.
3. La Salle (13-10; 3)
The Explorers finished the week 1-1, picking up a win over a mediocre Richmond squad at home before falling to a slightly better UMass squad on the road this afternoon.
La Salle will next play VCU, which should prove to be pretty tough, especially on the road, but should help prepare the Explorers for the A-10 Tournament next month.
2. Temple (17-7; 2)
After stumbling a bit in mid-January due to an injury to guard Will Cummings, the Owls are back on track and have won five straight. Fran Dunphy's squad blew out USF on the road early in the week before picking up an exciting last second win over Memphis on Saturday.
The Owls have a few tough games remaining on the schedule, but currently do find themselves in the NCAA Tournament in Joe Lunardi's latest Bracketology.
Temple is a pretty well-balanced squad, and could be tough come tourney time for anyone they match up with. At the moment, I could certainly see them upsetting a higher seed in the first (technically second) round.
1. Villanova (21-2; 1)
Villanova continued to kick ass this week, handily defeating Marquette early in the week before avenging an earlier loss to Georgetown in dominant fashion on Saturday.
The Wildcats have a pretty tough schedule remaining in a strong Big East, but at this point should be a lock for the tournament (barring an epic collapse), and could make some noise in March.
