Hopefully everyone had a nice holiday with their families and friends.
Now let's get into this week's City 6 Rankings.
6. Drexel (2-8; 6)
Drexel was able to pick up just its second win of the season this week with a 53-52 overtime win over Penn. The Dragons are now 2-1 this season against Big 5/City 6 opponents, with their one loss coming by just one point against Saint Joseph's in the season opener.
It has already been quite a rough season for the Dragons and figures to get a bit rougher. The good news is conference play begins soon and Drexel may find themselves more evenly matched with some of those opponents.
5. La Salle (4-5; 5)
La Salle suffered its worst loss in program history this past week, a 95-49 defeat at the hands of #13 Miami at The Palestra.
I imagine it's not too fun to collect the worst loss in program history for a program that has been around since 1931. The Explorers are in for a rough season, but on the bright side, at least there is only one (currently) ranked opponent remaining on their schedule this season.
4. Penn (5-6; 4)
Penn suffered a one-point overtime loss to Drexel in its only game this past week. That one stings a bit, especially now that the Quakers have lost five of their last six, with their only win in that span coming against Division III Ursinus.
Luckily for the Quakers, La Salle suffered the worst loss in its school history this week, so they stay put at #4 in these rankings.
Not so lucky for the Quakers, their next game comes on Monday against #17 Villanova.
3. Temple (5-5; 3)
Temple was not in action this week and stays put at #3.
Next up for the Owls is a matchup with #22 Cincinnati on Tuesday.
2. Saint Joseph's (9-2; 2)
Saint Joseph's continues to look solid in the early going, improving to 9-2 this past week with a win over a decent Virginia Tech squad.
The Hawks have a matchup with Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday, after which they will move into conference play and look to make a bit of noise.
1. Villanova (9-2; 1)
Villanova cruised past Delaware this past week, picking up a 30-point win over the Blue Hens to improve to 9-2.
The Wildcats will next face Big 5 rival Penn on Monday. Villanova will need to be careful not to get caught looking ahead in that game, however, as a meeting with #6 Xavier lurks on Thursday.
