The Phillies have placed veteran left-hander Cliff Lee on the 60-day disabled list following a second failed attempt at rehabbing from a torn common flexor tendon in his left elbow.
The club announced the move Monday, stating that the 36-year-old pitcher and organization came to a mutual decision to attempt rehab, despite doctors recommending surgery.
Lee, who was sent to the 60-day DL last July with the same injury, had been a major trade chip for the Phillies entering the season as the club looks to rebuild. The chances of a trade netting the club anything in return are now virtually zero, and the pitcher's career now lies in jeopardy.
