
The Bluejays shot 64.2 percent from the field, including 9-of-15 from beyond the arc, as they beat Villanova by more than 20 points for the second time, this time by a score of 101-80.
James Bell led Villanova in the half with 12 points, as the senior guard went 4-of-4 from beyond the arc.
McDermott dropped 22 in the half for the Bluejays, as he made 8-of-11 shots from the field. Creighton shot the lights out in the half, making 62.1 percent of their shots, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Creighton would continue their dominance of Villanova in the second half, going up by as much as 25 points before coasting to a 101-80 victory.
Bell led the Wildcats in the loss, just their third of the season, with 18 points, while JayVaughn Pinkston added 15.
McDermott finished with 39 points, tying his season high as he passed Larry Bird for 13th all time in scoring in Division I.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 22-3 overall and 10-2 in Big East play. Villanova will return to action on Tuesday when they visit Providence for the second meeting between the two squads this season.
