Fouls were another big reason for Drexel's eighth loss of the season. The Dragons ended up with 25 team fouls, but only played eight players. Two players fouled out, while three more ended up with 4 on the game. One of the victims of fouling out was freshmen guard Sammy Mojica, who surprised everyone with 14 big points off the bench. Mojica hadn't scored more than 4 points in any game this season before this afternoon. Tyshawn Myles fouled out as well, but not before recording 5 points and 3 rebounds.
The foul trouble was a double edged sword for the Dragons this afternoon. Not only did it shrink their already shallow bench depth, but the Nittany Lions converted 20-27 from the charity stripe on the day. Giving away 20 points worth of free throws will kill any team's chances at winning.
Coach Flint and the rest of the Dragons are well aware of their foul trouble and turnover issues this season. They have been slowly improving on it, but will need to put it all together soon, before they get too far into conference play. With just one more game left in their non-conference schedule (12/28 vs. Iona), the Dragons should look to get a little momentum going before they get into their in-conference play.
