Dragons Ride Strong Second Half To Victory

After falling behind 28-22 at the half, Drexel came out much more focused and was able to steal one away from the Cougars by a final score of 53-51.  Damion Lee led all scorers with 21 points, while the College of Charleston's Canyon Barry led the Cougars with 16 points.
The Dragons' offense struggled at first against a stronger than average Cougars' defense, and it showed as the Dragons shot just 34% (13-44) on the game from the field.  Drexel also went 9-22 from three point territory.  However, the main difference was the foul shot differential.  Drexel went 14-16 from the line, good for 87.5%.  The College of Charleston was only able to go 4-6 from the free throw line.  Those 10 extra points came in handy for the Dragons.

The Dragons defense was great this afternoon.  Not only did they hold the Cougars to just 51 points, with just 23 coming in the second half, but they forced the Cougars into committing 11 turnovers.  Granted, the Cougars aren't known for their offensive prowess, but the Dragons only allowed two opposing players to record more than seven points.

The win brings the Dragons to 5-14 on the season, but gives them their third win in conference play.  With just 10 games left on the season ( 5 on the road, 5 at home), the Dragons have some serious ground to make up.  Maybe an NCAA Tournament birth isn't likely, but they can still position themselves for a good run in the CAA Tournament.  With experienced players like Damion Lee and Tavon Allen, the Dragons have two guys they can rely upon for leadership come playoff time.
