A week after a strong outing in which the Dragons defeated the Saint Francis Red Flash, they failed to keep a winning streak going as the Dragons lost to the Buffalo Bulls 55-52. Forward Javon McCrea led the way for the Bulls, scoring 20 of the team's 55 points. It was a big win for Buffalo first year head coach, former Duke Blue Devil Bobby Hurley, as the Bulls improve to 6-4 on the season. Fro Drexel, the scoring was led by Sophomore guard Tavon Allen, who finished with 14 points.
Guard Chris Fouch had a decent game as well, finishing with 13 points. Dartaye Ruffin, who averaged 5.4 ppg coming into the game, scored at about his average, scoring 6 points on the game, but also grabbed 12 rebounds. Outside of Ruffin, Drexel struggled on the glass, as they lost the rebounding battle 42-34. A few more rebounds landing in the hands of the Dragons could have been the difference in the game. Although the Dragons shot a paltry 19-58 (32.8%) on the game, the Bulls fared no better, as they finished 21-59 (35.6%) from the field.
It was a sloppy game all around for both teams, which will happen after not playing for a week. Consider this a game for Drexel to shake off the rust after the Christmas break. Many men's basketball players struggled this weekend, not just within the City 6. Expect Drexel to come much more prepared on Friday against Southern Mississippi.
