The snow hit Philadelphia much harder than anticipated this afternoon, as the Eagles faced off against the Detroit Lions. With sloppy play in abundance early, the Eagles trailed the Lions before kicking things into high gear in the fourth quarter. Behind a record performance from LeSean McCoy, the Eagles were able to take the Snow Bowl by a score of 34-20.

Both teams struggled early on a snow covered playing field as the game went scoreless through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Nick Foles threw his first interception of the season at the Eagles’ 33 yard line. The Lions would return the ball to the 20 and drive the remainder of the field to score on a Joique Bell 2-yard run. A successful two-point conversion would give the Lions an 8-0 lead, one they would hold onto heading into halftime.

The Eagles continued to struggle in the third quarter, as the Lions jumped to a 14-0 lead on a 58-yard punt return touchdown. Philadelphia would respond moments later however, as Nick Foles hit DeSean Jackson for a 19-yard touchdown to pull the score to 14-6.

LeSean McCoy would break free for a 40-yard touchdown just 18 seconds into the fourth quarter and a successful two-point conversion would tie the game at 14 apiece. The Lions returned the kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown however, regaining the lead, 20-14.

It would be all Eagles for the remainder of the game, as Philadelphia turned on the jets. McCoy broke free again for a 57-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion would give the Eagles a 22-20 lead, one they would not relinquish.

Nick Foles would rush for a 1-yard touchdown and Chris Polk for a 38-yard score, as the Eagles dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lions 28-6 on their way to a 34-20 victory.

After early struggles, the Eagles turned things around in the second half, thanks in large part to McCoy’s record day. McCoy rushed for 217 yards on 29 carries, breaking Steve Van Buren’s franchise record of 205 rushing yards in a single game, a record that had stood since 1949. The Eagles rushing game as a whole played a part in the comeback victory, compiling 299 yards on the ground against the third-ranked Lions rushing defense.

The Eagles defense was able to overcome the elements, as they held the Lions to just 20 points, their ninth straight game holding their opponent to 21 points or less.

With the win, the Eagles move to 8-5 on the season and take over sole possession of first the NFC East for the time being, as the Cowboys won’t play until Monday night. Philadelphia will be back in action next Sunday afternoon, as they visit Minnesota at 1 p.m.

Amazing, unforgettable game. Forget the pundits: Foles is for real.
