They did it, the Eagles survived their trap game and can look forward to their showdown in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day. Well, survived wouldn't really be the right word to use here. In a game that wasn't as close as it seemed at times, the Eagles let up 17 in the second quarter, but won the game by a score of 43-24. Sanchez threw for only one touchdown and 2 interceptions, but still managed to throw for 307 passing yards and found ways for the Birds to keep their lead.
Shady's struggles this season have been well documented across the interwebs, but he had a solid game today, rushing for 130 yards on 21 carries. Sproles had a pretty quiet game by his standards, rushing for only 25 yards and catching 3 passes for 14 yards. Each of the aforementioned backs had a rushing touchdown in the contest.
James Casey had the lone receiving touchdown for the Birds on a 14 yard reception in the third quarter, but that was his only reception of the day. It was Jordan Matthews, however, who led the team with 77 receiving yards. Although no receiver went for 100 yards on the day, nine different players caught a pass this afternoon. This goes to show you the depth that this team has. Having so many players to rely on makes Sanchez's job so much easier.
The Eagles' defense was much improved today, after letting up 53 points to the Packers last week. The second quarter wasn't ideal, but they let up only 7 more points the rest of the way. Connor Barwin is continuing his monster season, recording 2 more sacks of Zach Mettenberger today. Barwin now has 10.5 sacks on the seaosn, good for second most in the NFL (KC's Justin Houston leads the way with 13 sacks). Trent Cole had himself a couple of sacks as well, making it 4.5 on the season for the veteran. Fletcher Cox had only one tackle in the game, but it was a big one, making it the fifth sack on Mettenberger for the Eagles.
The secondary even looked good today. Brandon Boykin had the lone interception, his 4th of the year. Nate Allen and Bradley Fletcher each recorded a fumble recovery, with Fletcher's coming off of a nice strip on the line by Bernie Logan.
The Special Teams kept up their impressive play, with Josh Huff bringing back the opening kickoff 107 yards for the touchdown and setting the tone for the afternoon. Huff has had quite a bit of controversy surrounding him in his rookie season, but it's good to see him contribute to the team in such a big way. Cody Parkey went 5-6 on field goals and 4-4 on extra points.
Only a few more days until the big Thanksgiving showdown between the Eagles and the Cowboys. The 2 matchups between the two teams will certainly determine the division title. A win on Thursday, especially on the road, would be huge for the Eagles and their playoff positioning.
