Eagles Sent Packing In Green Bay

11/16/2014

Coming off of the rout to Carolina, confidence was high heading into today's matchup versus Green Bay.  Both teams were looking to make their playoff pushes today, but only the Packers were able to make any positive on their playoff outlook.  With the Cowboys on bye this week, the Eagles dropping to 7-3 also leaves them tied at the top of the division with Dallas.  It should come down to the 2 head to head matchups left between the teams for the division title.
Where do we even begin?  Everyone was to blame for the loss.  Sanchez seemed to be doing alright in the first half, with most offensive miscues not being his fault.  But even his level of play dropped off in the second half.

Sanchez finished with a respectable 346 passing yards, with 2 TDs and 2 INTs.  However, everyone watching knew it wasn't as respectable as it appears.  The touchdowns didn't come until late in the second half, when the game was already out of reach.

Sanchez also had 3 fumbles on the day, losing 2 of them.  His stats were very similar to Newton's last week, where he was able to pad his stats in garbage time.

Shady had 88 yards rushing on the day, but it took him 23 carries to do so.  3.8 YPC won't get the job done against anybody, especially against a Packers team that's as hot as anybody in football right now.  He seems to have lost a step this season, but needs to pick it up come playoff time.

Going into the game, the Packers' biggest weakness is their lack of pass rush, but they seemed alright today, sacking Sanchez 3 times and forcing him to fumble a few times as well.

Rodgers is one of the best QBs in the league, but letting up 30 points in the first half is something reserved for defenses like those of the Bears and Vikings.  The Eagles' defense could not have been any more different in the last two games.  The tenacity that they brought against Carolina seemed to be left at home against Green Bay.  The Eagles let up 367 yards through the air, with Cobb and Nelson each surpassing 100 yards receiving on the day.

What has killed the Eagles' secondary is their tendency to let up the long pass.  They let up a long TD pass against DeSean Jackson and the Redskins, John Brown's long TD was a game winner, and they let up a huge strike to Jordy Nelson on the first drive, which set the tone for the game.

We all know that the Eagles are a very talented and capable team, as we saw last Monday night.  But it looks pretty likely that they will have to come up with a road win at some point in the playoffs.  They need to come out more aggressive and ready to play when that does happen, or they can find themselves exiting the playoffs early on yet again.
