One of the supposed reasons for the trade is to clear up some cap room. McCoy was slated to make nearly $24 million over the next three seasons, while Alonso will make less than $1 million a year over the next two seasons. The Eagles have more cap room than every team except the Jets, Browns, Raiders and Jaguars.
As of today, Sproles and Polk are the first two running backs on the depth chart. Odds are that they will add somebody else to the lineup, but both of these guys are dependable enough backs. Acquiring Oregon talent seems to be a passion of Chip's. Could Mariota be next?
