Eagles Undrafted Signings

The NFL Draft has come and gone, and each of the 256 picks were made, from Jadaveon Clowney, to Lonnie Ballentine.  The work is done and it's time to look forward to practicing together right? WRONG! It's time to scavenge the undrafted free agents you dingus! There are still many more players looking to join an NFL roster who weren't drafted.  Even though they weren't considered one of the top 256 prospects, there are impact players, and possibly pro bowlers, to be found on the open market.  Former Steeler and Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison wasn't drafted, so there are some quality athletes left to pick up.  Teams bring close to 80 players to training camp with them, so look for every team to bring in close to 20 free agents, many of whom are rookies trying to make a living playing the game they love.

Immediately after the draft ended on Saturday evening, the Eagles' front office set out to sign some of the undrafted players, and have managed to pick up a few good pieces so far.  My personal favorite, pictured above, is perhaps the most intimidating kicker of all time.  Carey "Murderleg" Spear, who attended Vanderbilt with fellow rookie Jordan Matthews, is notorious in the SEC for delivering huge hits on unsuspecting return men.  Do a quick Google (or Bing if you're into that kind of thing) search and you can find a few videos of Spear leveling an opposing player on a kick return.  A hard hitting kicker?! Why wasn't this guy drafted? Well for starters, he wasn't the most accurate kicker in school.  Alex Henery made field goals at a much better rate, so Spear might not cut it as a kicker.  However, Chip can probably find use for this guy on the special teams somewhere.

The Eagles also signed tight ends Blake Annen and Trey Burton, halfbacks David Fluellen and Henry Josey, Wideouts Kadron Boone and Quron Pratt, guards Josh Andrews, Karim Barton, and Donald Hawkins, and tackle Kevin Graf on offense.  On the defensive side of the ball, Philly signed defensive backs John Fulton and Daytawion Lowe, defensive end Frank Mays, and defensive tackle Wade Keliikipi.  Only time will tell if these guys will make any impact for the organization next season, but it doesn't hurt to give them a training camp invite and see what they've got, especially someone with a nickname like Murderleg.
