Eagles v. Redskins: First Half Takeaways

The Eagles have looked like garbage pretty much all around in the first half and head to the locker room trailing the Redskins 13-0. It's a deficit that can definitely be made up, but a completely different team will need to emerge from the break.

Let's take a quick look at the half that was.
DeMarco Murray Triples Season Production
After missing week three, DeMarco Murray returned to the Eagles' lineup today. In just one run, Murray would nearly triple his rushing production on the season, running for 30 yards on the first play of the Eagles' second drive of the game.

Murray would run for three more yards two plays later, but would lose five yards on his third attempt later in the half.

In all, Murray would finish the half with 28 yards on three carries, which is still better than the 11 rushing yards he entered Sunday's game with.

Eagles Offensive Line Is Atrocious
This one doesn't take much explaining. There was a lot of turnover on the offensive line in the offseason for the Eagles.

This season, the offensive line has been nothing shy of atrocious and Sunday has been no different. Redskins players have been able to go untouched to get to the quarterback multiple times.

Frankly, the Eagles should just be happy they have only allowed Sam Bradford to be sacked three times today with how bad the line has looked.

Agholor May Be On Redskins' Payroll
Nelson Agholor finally appeared to show up in his rookie season, catching a 45-yard pass from Bradford late in the second quarter.

Agholor would follow that up by fumbling on the very next play, however, and it would get worse.
With time winding down in the half, the Eagles finally found the end zone, as Bradford connected with Zach Ertz for an 11-yard touchdown. Not so fast. It would be called back on an illegal formation penalty on Agholor.

The Eagles would be forced to attempt a field goal a few plays later and new kicker Caleb Sturgis would miss, sending the Birds to the half down 13-0.

As Matt Mullin so wisely pointed out, it is getting a bit old to have to say "the Eagles are only down by __."

How many times are we going to say, “The good news is the Eagles are only down by __ points, so it could be worse,” this season?
