They wouldn't.
A late touchdown drive by the Redskins would propel them past the Eagles 23-20, dropping the Eagles to just 1-3 on the season.
With that out of the way, let's look at five takeaways from the Eagles' loss to the Redskins.
Stop me if you've heard this before, but the Eagles seem to be unable to string together 60 minutes in which they play well.
The Eagles were shut out by the Redskins in the first half, which makes it three out of four games this season in which they were held completely scoreless in a half. That would be four out of four games, but the Eagles were lucky enough to muster up a field goal in the first half against the Falcons in the season opener.
You can't play one or two quarters of good football (and that is a stretch to call the other quarters good) and expect to win games. Get your shit together and play from start to finish.
Sturgis Is Garbage
There are many reasons the Eagles lost this game, but Caleb Strugis is the easiest to pick on. With Cody Parkey out for the season, the Eagles signed the former Miami Dolphin Sturgis, who made just 77.5 percent (55-of-71) of his field goals in two seasons with the Dolphins.
Sturgis carried over those stellar (sarcasm) kicking abilities to the Eagles, missing a 33-yard field goal to end the first half and then missing the extra point on the touchdown the Eagles scored on the opening drive of the second half.
Those points win the Eagles the game, so they are the most glaring issue in this loss, but there were many other issues as well. Needless to say, Sturgis will most likely be in the unemployment line Monday.
Eagles Offensive Line Is Atrocious
This one doesn't take much explaining. There was a lot of turnover on the offensive line in the offseason for the Eagles.
This season, the offensive line has been nothing shy of atrocious and Sunday was no different. Redskins players went untouched on their way to the quarterback multiple times in the game.
Frankly, the Eagles should just be happy they only allowed Sam Bradford to be sacked five times for a loss of 37 yards against the Redskins with how bad the line has looked.
Offense Overall Was Bad
It wasn't just the offensive line that looked bad against the Redskins, the offense as a whole looked shaky at best and proved it has a lot of work to do.
Bradford completed just 15-of-28 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Even when Bradford does make good passes, his receivers seem to drop the ball.
After missing week three, DeMarco Murray returned to the Eagles' lineup on Sunday and would nearly triple his rushing production on the season after running for 30 yards on the first play of the Eagles' second drive. In all, Murray would finish with 36 yards on eight carries, which is still better than the 11 rushing yards he entered Sunday's game with, but not enough for the money he is making.
Chip Kelly Needs To Get It Together
Chip Kelly took the captain obvious approach after the game by saying the players aren't executing, which is true, but Chip Kelly isn't exactly executing as coach or general manager.
Chip got what he wanted in the offseason: full control of the team. He made some bold moves and so far they have yet to pay off.
The play calling and coaching has been subpar all season, to the point where the Cowboys knew when and where the Eagles were going two weeks ago. Other teams haven't has had all that much trouble with the offensive wizardry of Chip either.
It's time to put up or shut up, Chip. Get the most out of your players, before the season is completely lost.
Chip says players aren't executing. #Eagles
