The Explorers' efforts proved futile against a tough UMass team, as they were defeated 79-67 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Jerrell Wright led LaSalle in scoring with 16 points on 6-12 shooting to go along with his seven rebounds. Tyreek Duren also played well, scoring 5-16 from the field and 3-7 from the three point line, finishing with 16 points. Although effective from three point land, Duren struggled from up close and will need to improve from that area in the next few games if LaSalle wishes to play deep into March. Khalid Lewis provided a bit of a spark off the bench, finishing with 10 points and six assists. Steve Zack had eight points and seven rebounds, but finished with four fouls. The Minutemen big men took advantage of the foul trouble and were able to attack the hoop. UMass went 32-60 from the field, but only 7 of those conversions came from beyond the arc. Five Minutemen players finished with double digit point totals, and an additional player finished with eight points. The Explorers need to solidify their interior defense for their next matchup, or the results will be similar. LaSalle is now 4-4 in the A-10. With only a month left in the season, they are going to have to start winning a lot more than they have recently in order to have a chance to build on last year's terrific March performance.
