After 1 period of play the score was 1-1 thanks to goals by Steve Downie (2) and Thomas Tatar. Detroit went up 3-1 in the second after goals by Johan Franzen and a second by Tatar, but as the period drew to a close Matt Read helped our cause with his 9th goal of the year.
The Flyers exploded in the third with a steady stream of goals. Giroux (5) opened things up 5 minutes in, followed by Coots (4) and then Scottie Hartnell (6). Sean Couturier added his fifth of the year with an empty netter for good measure in the last minute of play.
Philadelphia went a perfect 3 for 3 on the power-play, which is not usually the case. Two of the three non-empty net goals in the third were power-play goals.
The Flyers needed this game as it is always important to gain points on a road stand. The away games will continue against Dallas on Saturday at 2.
