Jussi Jokinen notched the first goal for Pittsburgh halfway into the 2nd when the Flyers could not clear the puck from their zone even though they had a good 2 or 3 chances. A few minutes later, Chris Kunitz made it 2-0 on a rebound shot. The Flyers were outshot 17-5 in the 2nd period, but there was a glimmer of hope. Wayne Simmonds notched his first goal this season (tying him for 2nd in scoring on the team) on a powerplay with 1.7 seconds left. The McDonald's power play jackpot was mercifully stopped from hitting $500.
None of that momentum carried into the third though, as the Flyers looked lifeless and gave up a goal each to Crosby and Malkin. To make matters worse, Timonen did not play in the 3rd period due to a lower body injury.
The Flyers have yet to score 3 goals this year. The beauty is though, I know we as fans will still support them. Even though the team is 1-7 I still look forward to their next game, against the Rangers. It's an addiction I suppose.
