Flyers Notch First Win of the Year

The Flyers earned their first win tonight against the Florida Panthers in Craig Berube's coaching debut. Don't get me wrong, we should be happy, but the Flyers should have posted more than 2 considering all the time they spent on the power play. PP continues to be a weak area for them. Scott Hartnell said it simply in the postgame, "Our power play was terrible." But let's focus on the positives instead.

The offense looked good, for at least the first period. The Brayd(e/o)ns combined for the Flyers' 2 goals in the first period. Schenn was assisted by Lecavalier and Voracek, Coburn by Couturier. This was all the Flyers needed.

Brad Boyes put one through for the Panthers at the very end of the 2nd period to make it 2-1, the eventual final score. It was amazing it ended this way as there was one team on power play for over half the 3rd period.

Steve Mason is easily the star of this game. (33 saves, .971 pct.) He seems very comfortable behind the net and hopefully can provide that stability at goal that will allow the rest of our team to concentrate on improving.

The Coyotes got blown out by the Islanders tonight, so hopefully they'll repeat that performance when the Flyers take them on this Friday at the Well.

In other news, Rosehill needs to play smarter. Not only did he hurt the team with the penalty minutes tonight, but I'd be more worried about angering Berube. Don't be surprised if Rosehill comes to practice with a black eye tomorrow.

Note: Tim Thomas was quickly removed from the game after letting those 2 goals in, in a span of 4 minutes, replaced by Jacob Markstrom. Dude is looking bad right now.
