Flyers Play Role Of Predators In Victory Over Nashville

The Flyers got off to a great start to their 6 game road trip, and in very exciting fashion I must add.  The Flyers were able to get a big win over the Nashville Predators 3-2 in a shootout.  Goalie Steve Mason allowed just 2 goals on 36 shots and did not allow a single point in the shootout.

Center Claude Giroux had an unassisted goal in the first period and Sean Couturier scored late in the third period, assisted by Andrej Meszaros and Steve Downie.  The Predators kept up the pace, also scoring in each the first and third periods.  After a 2-2 finish to regulation, the game eventually went to a shootout.  Vincent LeCavalier struck first, and was the only one to strike as the Flyers won the shootout 1-0.

After a rough start to the season, the Flyers have shown a great deal of improvement as they have now won 8 of their last 11 games, and are now sitting at .500 for the first time all season.  Philadelphia is now fifth in the Metropolitan Division standings, sitting one point back of the fourth place Devils.  The Penguins have a pretty comfortable lead in the division, but only four points separate the Flyers from the second place Capitals.  The Flyers can catch up to these teams very quickly if they have a successful road trip.  Starting that trip off with a win will certainly provide some momentum for the Flyers.
