Coming into the third period down by 2, the Flyers looked like they had finally found their rhythm. Matt Read scored his 20th goal of the season on a shot that trickled slowly past Quick's skate and into the net. Soon to join Read in the 20-goal club was Jakub Voracek, who redirected a slapshot from the top of the zone by Hartnell. Voracek couldn't buy a penalty from the refs despite getting tripped on 2 separate occasions in the third so the goal was nice payback.
The comeback ultimately fell short though, as Dwight King (a man with the best team-matching last name since Greg Hurricane and Mathias Coyote played in the league*) scored top-shelf after receiving a pass on a 2-on-1 from Slava Voynov.
With this loss the teams split the season series. The Flyers won in LA 2-0 on their California trip.
Emery had a good game despite the loss. The Kings put up an absurd amount of shots with 41, Emery blocking 38 of them.
Steve Downie sat tonight with an upper-body injury (more specifically the head). Tye McGinn was called up from Adirondack to replace him. McGinn was plugged directly into the third line with Read and Couturier. He didn't do much of anything tonight, but it's always great to see McGinn up with the team. He shows a lot of promise, as does Raffl who was just signed to a 2 year $2.2 million contract extension.
This was Jeff Carter's first game back in Philadelphia since the trade and he was greeted to boos every time he touched the puck. I don't condone the booing, dude didn't want to be traded and if the Kings didn't win that cup 2 years ago it would have been the Devils, a fate twice as worse.
The Flyers have a ton of day-on day-off games coming up. Wednesday they take on the Rangers in a very important match up. So important, it's at 8:00 to give you an extra hour to get home. The Rangers are 1 point ahead of Philadelphia in the standings, so I can't stress the importance of this enough.
*There was never any hockey player named Greg Hurricane or Mathias Coyote, ya dingus!
