Flyers Top Senators 5-2

If only the Flyers could play the Ottawa Senators every game this year. They seem to have this team's number, outscoring them 10-2 in two games over the last 2 weeks. Three Flyers scored their first goal of the season tonight, including Sean Couturier, Kimmo Timonen and Adam Hall. The Flyers have now earned 9 of 10 possible points in their last 5 games and are only 2 points out of the third spot in the Metropolitan, the lowest guaranteed playoff position.
This game had to do wonders for the players' confidence. Everyone looked good out there tonight. Giroux netted his second goal of the year at the end of the first off a beautiful feed from Voracek. Giroux found himself all alone on the left side and put one home top-corner over an outstretched Robin Lehner.

After whiffing at what was essentially an empty net, Couturier redeemed himself, scoring from an incredibly tough angle. The shot was nearly shot from behind the goal, 30 feet away and banked in behind Lehner.  The goal was about as pretty as Coot's teeth/mustache combo, but that doesn't matter, it put Philly up 2-0.

Clark MacArthur, the guy who writes them science-fiction novels I believe, put the Senators on the board soon after. After taking a 2-1 lead to the 2nd break, the Flyers lost it on a Kyle Turris goal during an Ottawa power play. Three weeks ago I would not have felt confident at all in our teams ability to come back in the third, but the Flyers stepped up and dominated after Turris' goal.

Timonen scored his first goal of the year and did it with style. Skating right in front of Lehner and beating him with a backhand. 23 seconds later Simmonds got in on the fun, notching his 3rd goal of the year and making it 4-2 Flyers. Despite Coburn's efforts to shoot the puck onto Pattison Ave. (delay of game penalty) the Flyers survived the final moments of 6-4 play to go to 8-10-2 on the year. Adam Hall scored the final Philadelphia goal on an empty netter from 85 feet away to seal it.

Mason was a wall again, saving 32 of 34 shots, including a penalty shot awarded to Kyle Turris with 5:06 left in the game.

The Flyers stay home Thursday to play Buffalo.
