Four Eagles Named To All-Pro Second Team

1/3/2015

The 2014 All Pro teams were announced on Friday, and a few Eagles found their way onto the roster.  While no Eagles made the First team, four players were voted onto the Second team.  Connor Barwin, and Jason Peters made it at their normal positions, while Fletcher Cox made it as a defensive end, and Darren Sproles made it as a kick returner.
Other Eagles received votes for the First and Second team, but didn't receive enough votes to win the roster spot.  Lane Johnson had 1 vote, Evan Mathis had 2 votes, Jason Kelce had 5 votes, Mychal Kendricks had 1 vote, and Cox had a vote at defensive tackle.

Jason Peters finished with the fourth most votes at Tackle, receiving 12 votes and finishing behind first teamers Tyron Smith (35 votes), Joe Thomas (22), and second teamer Andrew Whitworth (14).

Connor Barwin finished tied for third in votes at his position, with 11 total votes.  He finished behind first teamers Justin Houston (47) and Elvis Dumervil (13), while tying with second teamer Von Miller.  Barwin was incredibly close to finishing on the First team, but fell just two votes shy of Dumervil.

Fletcher Cox was fourth in voting among defensive ends with 5 votes, but fell behind three incredibly talented ends.  J.J. Watt had 45 votes, and Mario Williams had 24 to round out the first team.  Calais Campbell joined Cox on the second team, finishing with 11 votes.

It was a very close race for the top kick returner this year.  Sproles finished second with 15 votes, but lost the first team spot by 2 votes to Pacman Jones (17 votes).  However, Sproles squeaked by onto the second team.  Devin Hester had 14 votes himself, losing a spot on the Second team by just 1 vote.

It's good to see some Eagles players recognized for their great seasons.  It would have been great to see a couple First teamers, but there were a lot of talented players that finished ahead of the Eagles players, especially at defensive end.
