Hamels has been one of the lone bright spots this season for the Phillies, but with trade rumors continuing to heat up as the deadline draws near, Hamels suffered one of the worst outings of his career. The Phillies’ ace was roughed up Friday night, surrendering a career-worst nine runs in just 3 1/3 innings pitched, as the Phillies lost to the Giants, 15-2. |
The Giants would waste little time getting on the board, scoring one run in the bottom of the first to take the lead. A Carlos Ruiz home run in the fourth would tie the game at 1-1, but the Giants would erupt for eight runs in the bottom of the frame as they began to completely decimate the Phillies.
Hamels would retire Brandon Crawford on strikes to start the bottom of the fourth inning, but would allow the next eight batters to reach base, as the Giants began to rack up the runs. Having already allowed four runs in the frame, Hamels’ evening was brought to an end on a grand slam by former teammate Hunter Pence that extended the Giants’ lead to 9-1.
The Phillies bullpen would be unable to hold the Giants scoreless in any of the remaining innings, as the runs continued to pile up like an accident on the Conshohocken Curve in the Phillies’ 15-2 loss.
With loss, the Phillies fell to 29-60 on the season, and find themselves on pace to lose 109 games in 2015. If things continue to go this way for the Phillies, it is likely that number of losses may become even higher, leaving just one question for fans.
