The Phillies definitely take joy in tormenting us all at this point. After being swept by the Pirates and losing 13 of their past 16, the Phillies have now won the first three games of this four-game set against the National League-leading Brewers.

Continuing to be the complete enigma they have all season, the Phillies followed up Tuesday night’s offensive outburst with an impressive 4-1 win over the Brewers, as Roberto “the artist formerly known as Fausto Carmona” Hernandez dominated Milwaukee for eight innings.

The Phillies wasted no time taking the lead Wednesday night, as Chase Utley drove a ball to right field for a solo home run, his eighth of the season.

Milwaukee would take that run back in the second on an RBI single by Lyle Overbay, but Hernandez would lock things down from there.

A two-run home run by Jimmy Rollins in the sixth would allow the Phillies to take a 3-1 lead, as Hernandez continued to sit the Brewers down with ease.

Hernandez was not only dominant on the evening, he was efficient, needing just 84 pitches to get through eight innings. Hernandez would exit after eight innings, having allowed just one run on three hits, as he handed things over to Jonathan Papelbon for the ninth.

Papelbon would toss a perfect ninth, collecting his 22nd save of the season, as the Phillies topped the Brewers 4-1 for their third straight win.

The Phillies will now look to complete the four-game sweep of Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon before heading home for one final series with the Nationals before the All-Star Break.

The Phillies seem to take one step forward and two steps back all the time, so you can fully expect the upcoming Nationals series to go terribly.
