It was supposed to be a battle of two ace pitchers. Cole Hamels was set to square off with Gio Gonzalez of the Nationals. That is, until Hamels' start was pushed back to Tuesday, as the pitcher battles the flu.

With Hamels out, the Phillies would turn to Roberto Hernandez.

The pitcher on the mound for the Phillies may have been different than expected, but this one still turned out to be a pitchers' duel, as Hernandez shut down the Nationals in the Phillies' 1-0 win.

Hernandez was shaky at the start, walking two batters and surrendering a single in the first inning before escaping the inning unscathed.

After Jimmy Rollins tripled in the bottom of the first, Chase Utley would smack a single to center, scoring the veteran shortstop to put the Phillies ahead 1-0.

It would prove to be all the offense the Phillies would need.

Hernandez would look dominant in the outing, holding the Nationals scoreless in 7 1/3 innings pitched, as he surrendered just four hits.

Hernandez would allow a single to Denard Span to start the eighth and be lifted with one out after Kevin Frandsen moved Span into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

The Phillies would turn to Mike Adams for the third time in three days, and the veteran reliever would do his job, getting the only batter he faced to ground out.

With two outs and a man on third, Antonio Bastardo would enter the game, and immediately raise every Phillies fans' blood pressure. Bastardo would walk Adam LaRoche to put runners on the corners before escaping the inning.

Jonathan Papelbon would be tapped in the ninth for the Phillies, and despite surrendering a few very long foul balls, would close out the game, picking up his ninth save in the Phillies' 1-0 win.

The Phillies will see a familiar face take the mound on Monday, as J.A. Happ makes the start for the Blue Jays, facing off against Kyle Kendrick.
