The Quakers traveled to Iowa City tonight to take on the Hawkeyes. Unfortunately they never really showed up there. The problem for Penn in this game can pretty much be summed up in one word, turnovers.
Penn starters, Tony Hicks and Henry Brooks, led the way with 6 turnovers en route to a 25 turnover night for the Quakers. It's hard to beat anybody when you have a stat line that reads like that. (and based on my Manayunk Sports Club playoff game last night I know this all too well)
Darius Nelson-Henry led Penn in scoring with 13. Iowa was led by Jared Uthoff, who contributed 19 off the bench. In fact, the Iowa bench dominated this game, outscoring Penn's bench 45-12. Iowa sits at 5-0 now, though they have played absolutely no one noteworthy thus far.
You may ask yourself why Penn had a game against Iowa scheduled to begin with. The Hawkeye's coach may have something to do with it. Fran McCaffery played for Penn in his college days, from 1979 to 1982.
Penn returns to the Palestra Tuesday night to take on a 1-3 Niagara. This should be a very winnable game for the Quakers, who could definitely use a boost after tonight.
