Jackets Shut Out Flyers at Home 2-0

A win tonight would have been great. Taking a point from the 2 best teams in the league in St. Louis & Boston the last two games was nice, but having a six point lead on the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team creeping up on the Flyers in the Metropolitan, would have been better. After tonight's shutout though, the Blue Jackets are only 2 points behind the Flyers in the standings.
The Flyers have now been held scoreless in 6 straight periods of hockey. The schedule will only get tougher, with Boston waiting on Saturday. On the bright side, Florida & Buffalo wait on the other side of that game. Can't overlook those games though, as every point is pivotal now.

Columbus just wanted it more tonight, outplaying the Flyers on D and beating them to pucks all night. This win was Columbus' first ever in Philadelphia. Prior tonight they've gone 0-for-6 at the Wells Fargo Center.

Former Flyer Sergei Bobrovsky got the shutout tonight for Columbus, saving all 37 shots. James Wisniewski scored the first goal for Columbus late in the second period on the power play. Brandon Dubinsky had the second goal on what appeared to be kick in after deflecting a Cam Atkinson slapshot. The goal was allowed though, as there was no distinct kicking motion.

It isn't like the Flyers didn't have their chances, but Bob was a rock tonight. One of those chances could have came when Couturier was on a breakaway in the second period. He was hooked from behind though by Ryan Johansen. No penalty shot was called even after the captains asked the refs for an explanation. A power play was awarded, but of course that didn't pay off as the Flyers went 0-for-4 tonight and are now scoreless in their last 11 power plays.

With this loss the Flyers magic number to make the playoffs remains at 6 points. As previously mentioned, the next chance they have to get some points is this Saturday in Boston at 1:00 pm.
