The Phillies did their only damage at the plate in the fourth, as they plated two runs. With two outs, Michael Young singled and Darin Ruf followed that up with a walk. Cody Asche (the Broad Street Beat's favorite young player) then stepped to the plate. Asche roped a triple to right to bring both runners home and give the Phillies the lead, one that they shockingly would not relinquish. Asche continues his steady improvement, going 2 for 3 on the evening. Asche continues to hit well after a tough 1 for 17 start to his big league career at the plate.
The Phillies are now 7-3 in their last ten contests, as they continue to at least show some signs of life after an elongated slump following the All Star break. The Phillies will face the Mets again tomorrow in game two of this four game series. Kyle Kendrick will take the hill for the Phillies.
