While the Phillies emerged victorious in the wee hours of Saturday morning in 14 innings, it would be a different story on Saturday, as they fell to the Mets 5-4 in 14 innings.
The Phillies would find some late inning magic yet again, however, as Ryan Howard cracked a three-run home run in the seventh to pull the Phillies within one before Domonic Brown singled home the tying run in the bottom of the ninth.
After Jeff Manship tossed four shutdown innings, he stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 13th with two outs and a man on third. Manship dribbled one up the middle to shortstop Ruben Tejada, who bobbled the ball, nearly allowing Manship to reach first safely, before he pulled up lame.
With Manship finished due to injury, Antonio Bastardo would be brought in for the 14th, allowing an RBI single to David Wright with two outs to put the Mets up 5-4.
The Phillies would kick off the bottom of the 14th with a walk and a single to put men on first and second with no outs, but would fail to plate a run, as they fell to the Mets, 5-4.
Cole Hamels will take the mound in game four of this five game series with the Mets on Sunday afternoon.
