Penn Comes Up Short, Falls to George mason 80-77

In what has become a recurring trend for the Penn Quakers this season, they played George Mason hard down the stretch, but simply couldn't pull off the victory. This drops Penn to 2-9 on the year and adds to their 6-game losing streak.
Penn traveled down to Virginia to take on the George Mason Patriots in a rare weeknight contest. Big man, Darien Nelson-Henry, sat out his third straight game, still suffering from a concussion-related injury. Tony Hicks came to play for Penn though, scoring 23 points including a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to bring Penn within 3. Unfortunately, he missed what would have been his 5th 3-pointer of the night and the game-tying shot with 1 second left.

On the Patriots end, Johnny Wilson set up the potential game-tying shot, missing 2 free throws in the final seconds. Byron Allen's 24 points helped the Patriots hang on to the lead.

The stat line was very even. Penn even led in 3PT's, FT's, assists and steals. Every game has been a close contest for the Quakers it seems. They just need to put it together. With Nelson-Henry coming back soon and the closeness of their out-of-conference games it is easy to see Penn still finishing in the top 3 of the Ivy League. Ultimately only the #1 spot matters though, as the Ivy League plays no postseason tournament. Idea: Have a postseason tournament like every other conference and have it at the Palestra.

Penn plays La Salle at the Palestra on Saturday at 4. Conference play then begins vs. Princeton next Saturday, before abruptly ending to squeeze in games vs. Saint Joe's and NJIT.
