Phillies Crushed by Braves

The Phillies were blown out as they opened their final series of the season at Turner Field against Atlanta in front of all 5,000 of their dedicated fans. The Braves jumped out to an early lead and cruised from there, which is probably a good thing I guess, because at least Brian McCann didn't try to fight anyone. In the end the Phillies fell 7 to 1 as they moved slightly closer to finishing out a miserable 2013 season.

Tyler Cloyd made the start for the Phillies and was simply horrendous. Cloyd allowed seven runs while recording only three outs in the contest. After being smacked around for five runs in the first, Cloyd returned for the second, allowing two more runs without recording an out before getting the hook.

Mauricio Robles came on to replace Cloyd, tossing three shutout innings while allowing only two hits. Joe Savery came on to pitch a scoreless fifth and Justin De Fratus did the same in the sixth, tossing a perfect frame. J.C. Ramirez threw a scoreless eighth and handed things over to B.J. Rosenberg who tossed a perfect ninth inning.

The Phillies offense continued to lie dormant, managing only one run in the contest. The Phillies plated their only run in the second as Tyler Cloyd grounded out to bring Cody Asche home.

The Phillies will now face the Braves in game two of this final series of the season. Cliff Lee will make his final start of 2013 as he looks for his 15th win.
