That’s about the only positive thing there is to say, as after that, the Phillies proceeded to get absolutely dominated in an 8-2 loss to the Braves.
It would be all downhill from there.
A two-run home run by Chris Johnson in the bottom of the second would put the Braves ahead before Atlanta opened things up in the third.
The third inning would turn into a mess for the Phillies, as they committed an error and Kendrick hit two batters with pitches. The Braves would make the Phillies’ pay dearly for their mistakes, scoring four runs in the frame to stretch their lead to 6-1.
Atlanta would add two more in the sixth, as they cruised past the Phillies with an 8-2 win in the series finale.
Silver lining, Cliff Lee returns to the mound on Monday. Don’t get too used to that sight, however, as it could very well be his final start in a Phillies uniform with the Trade Deadline rapidly approaching.
