Phillies Drop Back-and-Forth Affair to Cubs

The Phillies dropped today's back-and-forth contest to the Cubs by a score of 4 to 3. On top of the sting of a loss, everyone had their eardrums burst by Sarge's serenading of the crowd with "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh inning stretch.

Cliff Lee took the mound for the Phillies and was far from impressive in his outing. While they never supplied him with a big lead, the Phillies gave Lee the lead three different times, only to see him cough it up. In all fairness to Lee, the run in the third came after two Phillies errors with two outs in the inning, but he was still far from sharp on the outing. Lee finished his afternoon with five innings pitched, allowing three runs, two earned.

Zach Miner came on in the sixth and allowed a run in one inning of work, on his way to picking up the loss. Cesar Jimenez and B.J. Rosenberg each tossed a scoreless inning, but the Phillies offense had vacated Weigley Field by that point on the way to a loss.

The Phillies got on the board in the second, as Kevin Frandsen picked right back up where he left off last night, smacking a solo home run. After the Cubs tied things up in the bottom of the frame, Carlos Ruiz helped the Phillies regain the lead in the third on an RBI double. The Phillies would cough up the lead again only to grab it back in the top of the fourth on a Michael Young RBI triple. That would be the end of the scoring for the Phillies though, as the Cubs came back to win.

The Phillies will close out their series with the Cubs tomorrow before returning home. Kyle Kendrick will make the start, as he looks to guide the Phillies to a series win.
