Unfortunately for Burnett and the Phillies, the solid start would come to an abrupt end in the fifth inning, as the Mets scored two runs before adding three more in the sixth on their way to a 6-5 win over the Phillies.
It would be all downhill from there, however, as the Mets jumped all over Burnett, scoring five runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead.
The Phillies would chip away at the Mets’ lead, scoring a run in the seventh and eighth to pull within one.
The Mets would take one back in the eighth, however, scoring what proved to be the deciding run on a single by Dilson Herrera.
Grady Sizemore would single home a run in the ninth to again pull the Phillies within one, but they would be unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-5.
