Phillies Drop Sandberg's First Game as Skipper

The Phillies fired Charlie Manuel today as they begun the shake-up for next season a bit early. The change in manager did nothing to wake the Phillies offense however, as they dropped the opening game of the series by a score of 4 to 0. Maybe they were just boycotting scoring in honor of Charlie? Probably not, it's more likely they're just still bad at hitting.
Cliff Lee faced off against Zack Greinke on the mound tonight, as Greinke got the best of the Phillies ace. Lee tossed eight solid innings, allowing three runs on five hits. The Dodgers first two runs came on a Hanley Ramirez home run in the fourth, on one of the only mistakes Lee made all game. The Dogdgers tacked on a third run in the seventh, with two outs, when Dom Brown dove for a ball he had no right diving for. The ball snuck past Brown and the run came home. Justin De Fratus was called in for the ninth and allowed one run in two-thirds of an inning, extending the Dodgers' lead to 4 to 0, before Cesar Jimenez came on to record the final out.

The Phillies managed a measly three hits on the entire evening. Regardless of who the manager is, it's hard to win when your team can't even put the bat on the ball. Michael Young, Darin Ruf and Cody Asche each recorded one of the Phillies hits apiece.

There needs to be a lot more changes made to this organization as far as the roster and front office go if they hope to regain their winning form in 2014. Expect a busy offseason for the organization and numerous shake-ups, at least we better hope for a lot of changes.

The Phillies will be back in action tomorrow night in game two of this series against the Dodgers. Expect another tough night, as Kyle Kendrick will face off against Clayton Kershaw.
