After injuries derailed Gonzalez’s season multiple times, the Cuban pitcher finally made his Phillies debut on Wednesday. Gonzalez again came up lame, this time in the box score rather than with an injury.
Gonzalez replaced an injured Mario Hollands in the fifth with runners on the corners, allowing the go-ahead run to score before surrendering two more to the Braves in the sixth, as the Phillies fell 7-4.
A two-run home run by Grady Sizemore in the third would tie the game up, but the Braves would again gain the lead on an RBI groundout by Jason Heyward in the fourth.
Another sacrifice fly by Utley in the fifth would tie the game yet again, but the Braves would soon take control for good, as Hollands exited the game with an injury in the fifth inning.
Gonzalez would come on in relief of Hollands, and with just his second Major League pitch would surrender the go-ahead run on a single to Christian Bethancourt.
Gonzalez would allow two more in the sixth, as the Phillies dropped the series finale to the Braves 7-4.
