While all of Philadelphia was busy watching the Eagles score 34 unanswered points on their way to a win over the Jaguars, the Phillies were busy providing Cole Hamels with little offensive support.
Hamels was solid in the outing, allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings, but would pick up the loss in the end, as the Phillies dropped the series finale to the Nationals 3-2.

The Phillies would spot Hamels a lead to start with, as Marlon Byrd singled home a run in the first. The Nationals would waste little time responding, however, as Adam LaRoche led off the second inning with a home run to knot the game at 1-1.
The Phillies would grab the lead back on a sacrifice fly by Darin Ruf in the top of the fourth. LaRoche would again lead off an inning with a home run, however, taking Hamels deep to lead off the bottom of the fourth to tie the game and pick up his second home run of the afternoon.
Hamels would come up short on the afternoon in the end, allowing a double to Ian Desmond in the sixth and advancing Desmond to third on a balk. Scott Hairston would make Hamels pay for the mistake, bringing Desmond home on a sacrifice fly for the deciding run in the Nationals' 3-2 win.
