Cole Hamels was solid, but faltered in the eighth inning, leading to three runs for the Cardinals, as St. Louis topped the Phillies 4-1.
Hamels would slip up in the eighth, however, walking the lead off batter before surrendering a double to Matt Holliday to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
Hamels would be lifted from the game after the RBI double by Holliday, as Jake Diekman was tapped in relief. Diekman would allow two more runs in the inning, one of which was charged to Hamels’ line, in the Phillies’ 4-1 loss.
