The Phillies failed to complete their sweep of the Marlins, as they collected loss number 81 on the season in extra innings. With Kyle Kendrick scratched from the start, the Phillies bullpen was called on to piece together the outing. Failing to hold the lead provided to them, the game was taken to extras where the Marlins prevailed 4 to 3.

Zach Miner made the spot start for the Phillies, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing only two hits. Luis Garcia came on for the fourth and fifth and allowed one run on two hits before handing things over to Ethan Martin. Martin would collect the blown save, as he surrendered two runs on a Giancarlo Stanton monster home run in the sixth to allow the Marlins to tie the contest.

With the game tied, Justin De Fratus, B.J. Rosenberg and Jake Diekman each tossed a scoreless inning respectively to take the game to extra innings, where the Phillies would fall. Cesar Jimenez was tapped for the tenth inning for the Phillies and collected the loss, as he allowed a home run to Ed Lucas to give the Marlins the lead.

After falling behind 1 to 0 in the fifth, the Phillies quickly responded, scoring three in the bottom of the frame. A passed ball during Chase Utley's at bat allowed the Phillies to get on the board and tie things up, as Roger Bernadina crossed home plate. Utley would plate two more for the Phillies, as he singled to score Cesar Hernandez and Jimmy Rollins.

That would be all for the Phillies scoring, as they dropped their 81st game of the season.

A silver lining in the loss, Cesar Hernandez continues to look fantastic at the plate, as he went 2 for 4 to increase his average to .329 in his short time with the big club.

The Phillies will now welcome the Mets to Citizens Bank Park. Cole Hamels will face off against Daisuke Matsuzaka in the contest.
