Cesar Jimenez came on to pitch the seventh, throwing a scoreless frame while walking two. Ethan Martin came on for the eighth and surrendered the winning run to the Marlins, as he collected the loss.
While the Phillies did collect ten hits on the evening, they failed to convert those hits into runs, as only one went for extra bases. The Phillies tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh. Darin Ruf doubled and was followed by a Kevin Frandsen single to put runners on the corners with one out. Freddy Galvis would single home Ruf to narrow the Phillies deficit to 2 to 1 and Cesar Hernandez would single to plate the tying run.
The Marlins would regain the lead in the eighth and the Phillies had no answer in the ninth, as they lost their 86th game.
The Phillies will now head to Atlanta to close their season out with a four-game series against the Braves. Tyler Cloyd will make the start for the Phillies in the series opening contest.
