Zach Miner would toss a scoreless sixth and seventh, but with a sputtering offense, it made no difference. Miner handed things over to Joe Savery for the eighth, as Savery allowed one hit, while recording one strikeout in the scoreless frame.
The offense was essentially non-existent for the Phillies on the evening, as they scored only one run on eight hits. The run came in the first inning, courtesy of a Carlos Ruiz RBI single to plate Cesar Hernandez, but that would be all for the Phillies offense.
Somewhat of a silver lining, Ruiz continued to heat up, as he went 2 for 4 at the plate, collecting his 31st RBI of the season.
The Phillies will face the Nationals in game two of this series, as they look to reassure the Nats that they're not playoff contenders. Cole Hamels will take the hill for the Phillies, as he faces off against Gio Gonzalez.
