The Phillies picked up loss number 82 on the season, officially sealing their first losing season since 2002, when they finished 80-81. The Mets jumped out to a lead early and then held on to pick up the win by a score of 6 to 4 in the end.

Cole Hamels made the start for the Phillies and was roughed up a bit in his seven innings pitched. Hamels allowed six runs on ten hits in all. The Mets put three on the board in the first inning alone, as Daniel Murphy singled home a run that was followed by a two-run home run by David Wright.

Justin De Fratus would come on in the eighth and record two outs as he allowed no hits and walked one batter. Cesar Jimenez replaced De Fratus to record the final out of the inning before handing things off to Jake Diekman who threw a perfect ninth.

After falling behind early, the Phillies entered the bottom of the fourth inning trailing by a score of 5 to 0. The Phillies would rally in the fourth to pull within one run of the Mets. Darin Ruf hit a double with the bases loaded and with the help of a Mets throwing error, cleared the bases to knock in three runs. Cole Hamels would ground out to score Ruf later in the inning, but that would be all the damage the Phillies could do.

The Phillies recorded only five hits all game, as Daisuke Matsuzaka moved at a snail's pace to pick up the win.

The Phillies will face the Mets in game two of their final home series of 2013. Tyler Cloyd will make the start, facing off against Dillon Gee of the Mets.
