After seeing a 1-0 lead turned into a 3-1 deficit in the top of the seventh, it appeared the Phillies would need to wait even longer to finally string together three straight wins. The Phillies offense would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, however, regaining the lead holding on for a 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks would respond, however, as Phillies starter Chad Billingsley allowed a walk and a single to start the seventh. Billingsley’s night would be over after that, but his line would not be finished, as Justin De Fratus came on in relief, allowing both inherited runners to score, plus one more.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Phillies offense would rally, starting the inning with consecutive singles. Two batters later, Freddy Galvis would single home both runners to tie the game at 3-3, and would reach third on a throwing error.
Jeff Francoeur followed Galvis with a single of his own to bring in the go-ahead run and put the Phillies back in a position to with their third straight.
With both Jonathan Papelbon and Ken Giles unavailable in the game after pitching three consecutive days, the Phillies would be forced to turn to Luis Garcia in the eighth.
Garcia would rise to the occasion, picking up a six-out save - the first save of his career and first six-out save for the Phillies since 2009 - as the Phillies topped the Diamondbacks 4-3.
Up Next: The Phillies and Diamondbacks will square off again Saturday night in game two of a three-game series. Jerome Williams will take the mound for the Phillies as they look to extend their win streak to four.
