Phillies Top Nationals with Help of Replay

Replay in baseball. Some people like it, others despise it.

One thing is for sure, the Phillies were among those who were in favor of replay on Tuesday night.

With the game knotted at 3, Ben Revere hit a grounder to short and a high throw by Ian Desmond pulled first baseman Kevin Frandsen off the bag. Revere was ruled out initially, but after Ryne Sandberg challenged the call, it was overturned and Revere was ruled safe. He would eventually come around to score the winning run in the Phillies' 4-3 victory over the Nationals.

The Phillies were the first to strike in this one, as Freddy Galvis hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Darin Ruf would follow that up with a solo home run in the sixth to extend the Phillies' lead to 3-0, as Cole Hamels finally received some run support.

Hamels would stumble, however, allowing two runs in the seventh before a leadoff home run by Asdrubal Cabrera in the eighth tied the game and ended Hamels' night.

Ken Giles would come on in relief to strike out all three batters he faced, picking up the win after a sacrifice fly by Carlos Ruiz in the eighth brought home the go-ahead run.
