The Phillies unheard of win streak of two games came to an end tonight as they fell to the Rockies by a score of 5 to 3. The Rockies staked a comfortable lead early against some Rocky pitching from Tyler Cloyd (see what I did there?) and held on for the remainder of the game.
Tyler Cloyd returned from Lehigh Valley to make the start and was roughed up early before finally settling down. Cloyd allowed a mammoth two run home run to Troy Tulowitzki that landed at Harry the K's, before allowing a third run on a wild pitch later in the inning. The Rockies would score once in the second and third before Cloyd stopped the bleeding and settled in. In all, Cloyd tossed six innings, allowing 5 runs on eight hits. Zach Miner came on to toss a scoreless seventh, allowing one hit, before handing things over Cesar Jimenez, who tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth, while scattering one hit.
After winning two straight, the Phillies returned to their losing ways, as the offense went dormant. The Phillies notched only three hits total on the evening in the process of scoring three runs. Carlos Ruiz reached on an error in the third to bring home the first run for the Phillies. Chase Utley followed that with an RBI single before Dom Brown brought home the Phillies third and final run on a sacrifice fly.
The Phillies will look to recover and assure themselves at least a split of this four game series as they face the Rockies again tomorrow. Cliff Lee will take the mound and attempt to get the Phillies back on track.
