The Dukes were the first on the board in this contest, scoring on a 6-yard run. Villanova would respond shortly after however, as the Wildcats found the end zone on a 18-yard pass from John Robertson to Kevin Gulyas. The Dukes and Wildcats would trade touchdowns again, before a field goal sent James Madison to the half with a 17-14 lead.
James Madison would score 14 consecutive points to start the second half, including an 86-yard interception returned for a touchdown by DeAndre' Smith, to put the game away. Villanova would score a touchdown as time was winding down in the game on a 14-yard pass from Robertson to Earnest Pettway, but it was too late, as the Wildcats fell 31-21.
Robertson, the sophomore quarterback from Paramus, NJ, had an off day in what has been an impressive season for the young signal caller. On the day Robertson threw for two touchdowns and an interception, but the highly mobile quarterback was held to just 44 yards rushing.
The loss drops Villanova to 4-5 on the season and 3-3 in CAA play. The Wildcats will next head to Rhode Island to face off against the 3-7 Rams.
Temple 20 Rutgers 23
Temple played probably its best game of the season this Saturday, but the Owls came up short against Rutgers, falling 23-20. In what has been a dreadful season for Temple, they looked like somewhat of a different squad, as they kept things close with a solid Scarlet Knights squad.
Temple found the end zone on a 26-yard pass from P.J. Walker to Robbie Anderson in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead, but kicking problems continued to plague the Owls, as the extra point was missed. Rutgers would get on the board with a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter, but the Owls would respond with another touchdown to head to the locker room with a 13-3 lead.
Following two Rutgers touchdowns to open the second half scoring, the Owls responded with a fourth quarter score on a 25-yard run by Kenneth Harper. The touchdown put Temple ahead 20-16 with just over 10 minutes to play. With 35 seconds remaining, the Owls defense had the Scarlet Knights at fourth-and-10. Summing up just how this season has gone for the Owls, Gary Nova threw a 33-yard pass for a touchdown to give Rutgers the 23-20 lead and the win.
The loss drops Temple to 1-8 on the season, as they have yet to win a game in the AAC. Temple will next face off against #23 UCF in two weeks at home.
U Penn 0 Brown 27
The Bears scored on the first play of the game on a 93-yard run by John Spooney and never looked back, as they cruised past the Quakers at home.
It would be an embarrassing beating for U Penn, as they failed to score a point in the contest, while surrendering 27 to Brown. Brown rushed for 291 yards overall in the contest, including 232 yards by Spooney on just 16 carries.
U Penn would be outgained significantly by the Bears, who had 501 yards of total offense compared to the Quakers' 249.
U Penn falls to 4-3 with the loss, their first in conference play this season. The Quakers will next face Princeton at home.
