Where the Patriots really separated themselves from the Eagles was on the ground, as the Pats rushed for 250 yards while the Eagles managed just 89 rushing yards total with no scores on the ground. Obviously the Eagles aren't going to use McCoy too much in the preseason, so they have to rely on their second and third team backs. Henry Josey looked good, gaining 56 yards on 8 carries for the Birds.
The Eagles QBs really spread the ball in the passing game, with 12 different players recording a reception. However, the best reception on the game was Arrelious Benn's only reception. Ifeanyi Momah initially caught the pass in the end zone, but coughed it up in the air before coming down with the ball. Thankfully Benn was close by, and reacted quickly enough to catch the ball in the air and come down with it for 6 points.
Ironically, the guy who almost coughed up the touchdown also couldn't help himself from coughing up the ball twice more during the game, with both balls going to New England in the ensuing fumble. Momah is already an outside shot at making the roster. Fumbles like that won't help his chances one bit. He needs to really impress Kelly over the next couple of weeks to get a spot on the roster.
In other receiver news, Jordan Matthews had a terrific game, recording 104 yards on 9 receptions. He looks comfortable in the offense and should be a reliable receiver for Foles during the season.
The first unit defense looked solid on the first drive, which resulted in a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown from Cary Williams. However, the second Patriots drive was a completely story. There were flags being thrown left and right which helped set the Pats up for the score, but the offense looked like they could get whatever they wanted at any time during that drive. There's still some time before the regular season starts, but this is now back to back weeks of allowing over 30 points. Cary Williams left the game after pulling a hamstring on that 77 yard return, but hopefully won't be out for too long.
Overall, it was an okay performance from the Eagles. Some players really impressed, while others need to work a lot harder this week to prepare for the next matchup against the Steelers on Thursday.
